Chapter II
Inventory of Existing Conditions
Airport Master Plan Update
Greenville, Maine
INTRODUCTION

The initial action necessary in the preparation of an AMPU is the collection of all pertinent data that relates to the area served by the airport as well as the airport itself This inventory was conducted using the following sources of information:

  • 1977 Airport Master Plan and 1984 Environmental Assessment,
  • on-site visits,
  • interviews with airport management, tenants, and users,
  • coordination with local planning representatives,
  • federal, state, and local publications,
  • PAC input, and
  • project Record Drawings.
This chapter briefly describes the physical facilities of the GMA and the surrounding community. Aviation-specific information on the airspace, other airports in the area, aviation activity in Greenville, and role of the airport are also described.

As previously discussed, this document represents an update to the 1977 Airport Master Plan. Information that has not changed significantly and is not necessary for this update, such as the history of the airport, has not been repeated in this document.

It is important to note that several significant improvement projects have been completed since the preparation of the 1977 Airport Master Plan. A listing of these projects, complete with the construction date, project type, and approximate cost are included in Table 2-1. It should also be noted that airport development is a constant process, and changes to the physical facilities at the airport can occur during the preparation of the master plan. As a result, information included in the inventory section may be changed during the development of the master plan. Where possible these changes are mentioned in later sections of this report.
