West Cove Ice Racing - A novelty to the State of Maine, let alone Greenville, a group of auto racing enthusiasts organized a group known as the West Cove Ice Racing Association and began racing on a quarter-mile track on the ice of Moosehead Lake in Greenville Junction. Moose Mainea - Each spring the Moosehead Lake Region hosts a month long celebration of the area's favorite resident - THE MOOSE! The events take place during the time of the year when moose are most visible. This year's events include the Moose River Canoe Race, Moosterpiece Craft Fair, Moose Mainea Kid's Fun Day, Famous Moose Tales, a Quest Fest, and the Chamber of Commerce's Annual Moose Photo Contest. The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District's Board of Supervisors will hold their monthly meeting at 7:00PM on Monday, June 8th at the USDA Service Center located at 42 Engdahl Drive, Dover Foxcroft, in the Pine Crest Business Park.
The public is encouraged to get involved in conservation efforts by participating in meetings, volunteering and/or serving on the district board. Any interested person may participate in meetings and also inquire about becoming an associate supervisor. The USDA is an equal opportunity provider and employer. MooseMainea Month wraps up with this entertaining powerpoint presentation and Moose art show. Biologist Lee Kantar is the state of Maines deer specialist. Moose being the largest of the deer species, He will bring a wealth of knowledge. Discussion will cover moose habits, habitat and lore. Participates will also enjoy a demonstration of moose calling, local artists interpretations of the Moose and Moose doeuvres will served. |

Moosehead ATV Riders 911 Ride - 50 mile ride sponsored by the Moosehead ATV Riders Club. The ride will leave from the end of Depot Street just after 9:00am. A free hotdog lunch will be served during the ride but bring your own soft drinks. Expected return time is 3:00pm. Last year we had 26 ATVs including several police and fire departments. Paul Johnson IF&W retired biologist will present a visual talk on the waterways, wildlife and wildflowers along the Thoreau- Wabinaki trail. Decades of experience as a biologist paired with Paul's love of documenting photographicly makes for an informative and engaging presentation.

A perennial favorite of most audiences as this show is annually evolving. As an exploration of the wildest remaining canoe trips in Maine, the path of the paddle is followed from an early spring run on the St. John River, through summer and fall trips on the West Branch of the Penobscot and the Allagash. Maine wildlands, wildlife, and glimpses of northwoods history are illuminated as well as the skills of canoeing, poling, and comfortable camp life. The show concludes with a few scenes from the other season the winter trail provided by the same waterways, when canoes are replaced with snowshoes and toboggans (description/information from www.northwoodsways.com).

Science and Astronomy followed by The North Woods Sky
August 13, Thursday 7pm.
Dr. John Herrmann and Mary Capriotti will present an exciting science show using liquid nitrogen to demonstrate low temperature physics and the temperature of our solar system. The latest developments in space exploration, comets, roaming asteroids, and Mars research will also be covered. If weather permits, a sky watching session will follow the indoor program. In the event of bad weather, another sky observation time and possible change of venue will be arranged. Adult admission is $3 and all children and K-12 students are free/ donations accepted. |

The weekend consists of Float Plane competitions, educational exhibits, the Moosehead Lake Region's largest craft fair, lots of food and much more. The WomanCare, the local domestic violence project in Piscataquis county, is offering a free legal consultation with a lawyer from the PenQuis law project on Wednesdays from 9am 12pm at the WomanCare office and on the last Wednesday of the month in Greenville at the C.A. Dean Memorial Hospital.
This free consultation is for WomanCare clients dealing with legal issues that pertain to family matters (divorce, parental rights & responsibilities, post judgment motions) and protection from abuse orders. The Resource Development Center at Penquis Community Action Program is accepting applications for the voucher program to help income-eligible families that are working or going to school pay for child care expenses. These vouchers can be used in a variety of childcare settings, including Family Child Care, Child Care Centers and Friend or Relative Child Care, if the caregiver passes the state background checks. Families of two can earn up to $33,770 and a family of four can earn up to $49,661 to qualify for child care assistance.
