Selectmen go "light"
Tuesday, January 08, 2008
By JONATHAN PRATT - GREENVILLE - The Greenville Board of Selectmen need a short, and somewhat "light" meeting every now and then. On Wednesday, January 2, they recieved just that. Considering their regularly scheduled meeting was preceded by a public hearing centering around winter maintenance issues, they probably deserved as much.

They took advantage of the time and werea ble to take care of some of the easier issues that may clear up subsequent meetings.

Case in point was the appointment of the two Code Enforcement Officers (CEO), Dick Gould and Jack Hart. Hart was appointed as the town's Alternate Code Enforcement Officer, as he has not yet completed the certification required to be a full-fledged CEO.

Just prior to the Board making the appointments, the Board entertained public comment, as per usual for the beginning portions of their regular meetings.

Kyle Pelletier spoke to the Board about snowmobiling in the area, and, more specifically, ideas regarding fundraising for the program. Pelletier requested that the Board consider a "matching grant" method wherein if parties raised certain dollar amounts, the Board would then match the amount, with all monies involved going toward funding the area'ss snowmobile trail grooming program. The Selectmen left it up for consideration and future discussions.

The Board followed the appointments centering on a Planning Board vacancy. Beth Young, Planning board member and town employee, has submitted her resignation from the Board. The first alternate, the person who would normally fill a vacant postion, is held by Wayne Noyes. Noyes expressed desire to remain First Alternate, but he did not wish to hold an official seat on the Board at this time. That left Second Alternate Jeff Johannemann, who agreed to be made a full-member of the Planning Board. This still left the Board with a vacancy, Second Alternate, a position that will be advertised in the very near future.

Prior to the meeting's conclusion, the Board decided to allow for the Town Office to be closed to the public on Martin Luther King, Jr. day, which occurs on Monday, January 21 of this year. Town employees will have a training day, and this year's theme will be on customer service. In previous years, the training days focused on department operations, and emergency management.

The Board of Selectmen also recognized donations to the Fire Association from Jack Moore and Cathy Sweetser, and another made to the Town from John Pepin.

During conversation regarding issues brought up at the public hearing, the Selectmen decided to post details surrounding the Winter Parking Ban on a weekly basis. This notice will run at no cost to taxpayers in the Moosehead Messenger, until the Winter Parking Ban is no longer in effect.
