This year there will be up to 40 teams of canine athletes and their human companions not only mushing for the fun of sledding their way through the Northern Maine Woods, but also running for our friends and families of this area for the fuel assistance programs of both Greenville and Brownville, Maine.
A portion of this year's race registration and a portion of donated funds from the race will help assist those in need this winter in the Maine Highlands area.
The race starts at the Maine Warden Service, Village Street in Greenville at 9am on Saturday February 7th and continues up Moosehead Lake and over the 100 Mile Wilderness to Brownville where there is a mandatory 2 hr layover. After the layover they return to Greenville in the evening where there will be a warm bonfire to meet them.
Many activities during the day include a 30 mile race as well that starts at 11 am from Greenville and returns to Greenville. In the afternoon there will be Sled Dog rides, Animal Tracking course and a skijoring demonstration.
To finish out the weekend there will be a Mushers Breakfast at the American Legion Hall
On Sunday February 8th from 7am to 10 am.
The Committee for the race is still looking for volunteers. We need people to help at the race start, people with snowmobiles out on the trails and host families for mushers as well that are coming from away for this great outdoor event.
Monetary donations for the Fuel Programs will be accepted as well, please go to our website 100milewildernessrace.org, for more information or call the Moosehead Area Chamber of Commerce for the event schedule.
