Wanted: Greenville groups to help with Community Appreciation Day
Tuesday, June 19, 2007
GREENVILLE - Plans for the August 18 celebration of Greenville's Community Appreciation Day continue to come together, and nominees are still being sought for the Greenville Citizenship Award that will presented that day.

Community Appreciation Day will actually begin on Friday, August 17, with a talent show. Details on the show will be forthcoming, and those interested in participating should contact Keyth Carter at 695-3837.

Saturday, August 18, will celebrate the town of Greenville, with activities spread throughout town, including games for young and old alike. A townwide scavenger hunt held throughout the day will take participants to important Greenville landmarks. The day will culminate with a BBQ and Dixieland concert at the parking lot for the S.S. Katahdin, on East Cove of Moosehead Lake.

Before the concert, town officials will present the Greenville Citizenship Award. Nominees are being sought for the award, which will go to "a person who, through love of the region and service to the community, has made Greenville a better place to live."

The staff of the Moosehead Messenger/Up North Magazine are now accepting nominations, and will make the final determination of the winner. Nominations should include the name of the nominee and a short description of the nominee's history of service to the community. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to make nominations.

"In a small town like Greenville, it takes the hard work and dedication of selfless volunteers to make things happen," said Ben Bragdon, editor of the Moosehead Messenger. "With the Greenville Citizenship Award, we want to recognize someone who, through their ideas and personality, have made a difference.

"I am sure each of the great organizations that serve the Moosehead region has someone within their ranks deserving of the Greenville Citizenship Award. To those organizations I say, Send in those nominations!"

Nominations should be received at the Messenger/Up North office by Friday, July 20. Nominations can be emailed to: mooseheadmessenger@verizon.net; mailed to PO Box 300, Greenville Jct., 04442; or faxed to 695-3780.

Help from the town's many citizen-led organizations is also needed to make Community Appreciation Day a success. Organizations who would like to participate on August 18 by sending representatives to man a booth in the Katahdin parking lot should contact Jack Hart at the Greenville Municipal Building at 695-2421 or email him at rec@greenvilleme.com.
