Master Gardener Program

DOVER-FOXCROFT - Recently sixteen folks finished their training in the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Piscataquis County 2005 Master Gardener Program. They include from Greenville - Laura Burch, Sara Holman, Susan Ingalls, Laurie Muzzy, Sherry Spiller, Minta (Diana) Tracy, Debbi Webber, Gretchen Huettner. New Master Gardeners from Dover-Foxcroft - Ralph Gabarro, Helen Kelly, and Sharon Phillips. And from Parkman - Mallory Bussell, from Wellington - Tracy Chamberland, from Milo - Donna Dewitt, from Stetson - Joanie Withee and from Abbot - Stephen Madera

This year's program focused on ornamental horticulture topics presented by Extension Educators, Extension Specialists and Master Gardeners Debby Preissler from Greenville shared her enthusiasm for the program with the class, when she shared her volunteer experiences with the Master Gardener Program and the Greenville Garden Club.

To finish their Master Gardener Certification these folks will complete 40 hours of volunteer time helping others learn about gardening. A variety of projects have been developed including a landscaping project at the Penquis Higher Education Center, maintaining the small gardens throughout Dover-Foxcroft, and assist with the development of public landscaping projects. Some Master Gardeners will also assist the Charlotte White Center with their garden project, do presentations for community groups, Plant a Row for the Hungry Project and volunteering in the Extension Office to answer home gardening questions.
