Sunday, August 3 - 3:00 p.m. - The Depot St. Development in Greenville Junction hosts the Zapolski String Quartet and Hornist William Kuyper, an Arcady Summer Music Festival Concert. For 23 years, Arcady Music Society has been enthusiastically fulfilling its mission to bring classical music to central, northern and Downeast Maine, with an emphasis on chamber music and youth programs. The 2003 Summer Festival continues this tradition, offering an exciting season of concerts featuring some of the best musicians performing today. The Zapolski Quartet, formed in Copenhagen in 1993 by violinist and composer Alexander Zapolski, was soon recognized as Scandinavia’s leading Quartet, with concert and recording activities around the world. The Zapolski Quartet has played at festivals in Germany, Russia, Slovakia, Austria and Scandinavia. In 2001 they debuted in the United States at Music Mountain. In 2002 they made their United Kingdom debut at the Arundel Festival and in 2003 they toured Japan. The New York Philharmonic’s Assistant Principal Hornist L. William Kuyper will share the stage with the Zapolski Quartet. He is active both in the United States and abroad as a soloist, clinician, and recording artist. He also appears regularly with the Philharmonic Ensembles in their chamber music series at Merkin Concert Hall.
