"IN THE NEWS"

Fall is in the air, and that means it's time for the Moosehead Historical Society's annual "Quebec City Christmas Shopping Extravaganza."
Tuesday, September 17, 2002
The escorted bus trip will head to Place Laurier in St. Foy for an afternoon of shopping on October 8, 2002. Place Laurier, with more than 350 stores, is the largest shopping center in Eastern Canada.

But before "shopping, shopping, shopping," those traveling will visit the Vauchon Bakery in St. Marie, where they can load up on French pastries, jams and jellies and other baked goods at outlet prices. From there, the bus will head to the Tomas Tom Oriental Buffet in Quebec City for an early dinner at the huge buffet. Although the name says Oriental, the buffet includes a wide range of other foods, including some uniquely Canadian dishes.

From there, it's on to Place Laurier where each traveler will receive special coupons for substantial discounts at the stores. After leaving late in the afternoon, a stop will be made at Father Nature in St. Georges, a combination French cheese shop, vegetable stand and bakery.

For those who prefer not to spend an afternoon at the shopping center, the bus will head out along the St. Lawrence River to Montmorency Falls, a spectacular waterfall higher than Niagara Falls.

Cost of the daylong execursion is $45 per person, and that includes transportation and the luncheon buffet. Reservations should be made quickly as Moosehead Historical Society bus trips fill up fast. To reserve seats, call the historical society office at 695-2909. Checks, made out to Moosehead Historical Society, should be sent to Post Office Box 1116, Greenville, ME 04441 only after a reservation is confirmed. The office is open 8-4, Monday through Friday, but if no one is in, leave a message on the recorder.

The Moosehead Historical Society uses air conditioned coaches from Cyr Bus Lines for its trips, which also includes an escort.
