GREENVILLE - "Wounded Warriors: Veterans' Last Battle," a public program providing information on specific ways to assist veterans with their end-of-life healthcare needs, is planned for Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 4-8 p.m. at the Cecil R. Cole American Legion Post in Greenville. Program presenters will include Patrick Daly, M.D. ,of the Bangor VA Clinic; Enoch Albert, RN, Chair of the Palliative Care Committee at Togus; Donna Martin, RN, Case Manager, Community Health Director at Togus; Kandyce Powell, Executive Director of Maine Hospice Council; a speaker from the medical hospice program at Community Health and Counseling Service; and Kay Johnson, director of Pine Tree Hospice, a volunteer hospice service. Topics will include the importance of advance directives, palliative care, connecting veterans with community-based hospice services, the state's hospice/veterans partnership, the role of medical hospice, and the role of Pine Tree Hospice volunteers in the end of life care and bereavement care programs. The program is open to members of the public and to healthcare and social service professionals. Continuing education units will be given for those attending. A dinner of homemade soup, sandwiches, dessert and drinks will be served. |
