Greenville Board of Selectmen RESOLUTION Supporting the Addition to the November 4, 2002 General Election of a Citizen's Initiative Entitled “An Act to Reduce Property Taxes Statewide”
Thursday, October 16, 2002
WHEREAS, there appears to be concern across the state regarding the burden of all taxes, but in particular the property tax; and

WHEREAS, the Maine Municipal Association, of which the Town of Greenville is a member, has devised a citizen's initiative proposal to reduce property taxes; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Selectmen recognize that many previous efforts to effect meaningful property tax reform and/or reduction have failed at the legislative level; and

WHEREAS, the people of the State of Maine hold sovereignty and have a constitutional right to be heard through the mechanism known as a Citizen Initiative Petition:

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: THAT the Town of Greenville Board of Selectmen hereby supports the addition of the proposed tax reform initiative of the Maine Municipal Association entitled, “An Act To Reduce Local Property Taxes Statewide” to the ballot of the November 2004 General Election Referendum Ballot, but does not take a position on the merits of the proposal itself.
